Yes, Whyte tried to cheer himself up after losing by knockout round 5 to Alexander Povetkin in the WBC interim belt race on Saturday (22/8/2020) in Brentwood, Essex, England. In fact, Whyte had knocked Povetkin to the canvas twice and held firm control but was immediately knocked out by a blistering upper-cut left in round five, thwarting his goal of challenging WBC heavyweight title Tyson Fury.

Asked if it had been a mistake against Povetkin rather than waiting for his mandatory chance at the Fury belt, Whyte told Sky Sports News the morning after his defeat: “I have no regrets.”
“It was a great fight and Povetkin did well. I knew I could beat him, I showed that from the first round. Obviously he is very experienced.”
“The pressure almost pulled him out. But he had one of the best punches of his career. It was heavyweight boxing, full of drama, ups and downs. ‘I didn’t push him in the fourth round because he was dangerous – when he was injured he hit a big punch.”
