Dijon, Limoges, Pau-Orthez and Strasbourg committed for the 2022-2023 edition

Basketball / Champions League – The Champions League board met on Thursday and confirmed the list of 52 teams that will fight for the European trophy. On the French side, JDA Dijon, CSP Limoges and Élan Béarnais are directly qualified in the main draw. Strasbourg, on the other hand, will have to go through the qualifications.

The identity of the clubs which will defend the tricolor colors during the next version of the Champions League is now known! Now accustomed to European games for several seasons, the JDA Dijon will try once again to go as far as possible. Eliminated at the gates of the Top 8 last season, the Dijon club will be accompanied by a CSP Limoges which finally finds the flavor of Europe thanks to its excellent 4th place in the regular season of Betclic Elite.

The participation of the Élan Béarnais on borrowed time

For the future, the situation is still unclear. L’Elk Bearnais obtained a direct ticket for the final table of the competition, but its participation is more than ever compromised due to the dramatic financial situation of the club. Currently positioned in the qualification table, Strasbourg could therefore take the opportunity to replace the Pau in the event of a package. It would also mean that instead of the four French clubs initially entered, only three would participate. In this case, the place left vacant by the SIG in qualifications would be allocated to the TFT Skopje.

In addition, the important dates concerning the resumption of the season have been transmitted. Thus, the draw for the tables will be carried out on July 7th. We will have to wait until September 21 to see the Champions League officially start. Out of 24 teams entered, only 4 will be able to benefit from a ticket to access the main draw, and join the 28 teams already qualified. Then, the serious things will start on October 4 for the start of the group stage.
