Digital terrestrial, such as TVs change frequency on January 1st

The roadmap of the second generation DVB-T2 digital terrestrial and, consequently, i frequency changes of many TV stations. Waiting for the technological switch-off that will force the viewers from some regions to change TV or decoder, it will therefore be necessary to re-tune or you will no longer see several channels.

In particular, the release of the 700 MHz frequency band, belonging to the great UHF spectrum ranging from 300 to 3,000 MHz. These frequencies have already been assigned to telephone operators for 5G network which, in fact, will travel on three bands: 694-790 MHz, 3.600-3.800 MHz (these two bands constitute the so-called frequencies “Sub-6 GHz) and 26.5-27.5 GHz (the so-called millimeter waves, the fastest 5G of all). Currently on the frequencies of the “Band 700”Broadcast many Local Italian TV, for which the Ministry of Economic Development has developed a roadmap staggered over time in order to give them the opportunity to change frequencies. The roadmap has been divided into “Restricted areas“From A to D and areas A and B have already seen the change of frequencies respectively in the periods 1 January – 31 May and 1 June – 31 December 2020. Now, in January 2021 it is the turn of the restricted Area D, while in September 2021 it will be the turn of the restricted Area C.

Restricted area D: who has to retune

L’Restricted area D includes the whole Sicily, except the provinces of Palermo and Messina. It will therefore have to retune the TV or the digital terrestrial decoder who lives in these provinces:

  • Agrigento
  • Caltanissetta
  • Catania
  • Enna
  • Ragusa
  • Syracuse
  • Trapani
  • In all these areas, all local TVs currently broadcasting on 51-53 UHF and national TVs broadcasting on 50-52 UHF will change frequency. The frequencies will change over the time span included between 1 January and 30 June 2021.

Restricted area C: who needs to retune

L’Restricted area C instead it includes a vast swath of the Italian territory that includes provinces from the far north to the deep south:

  • Trieste
  • Gorizia
  • Pordenone
  • Udine
  • Venezia
  • Treviso
  • Verona
  • Vicenza
  • Rovigo
  • Padova
  • Mantua
  • Bologna
  • Ferrara
  • Forlì-Cesena
  • Modena
  • Ravenna
  • Rimini
  • Ancona
  • Ascoli Piceno
  • Stop
  • Pesaro-Urbino
  • Chieti
  • Pescara
  • Teramo
  • Macerata
  • Campobasso
  • Foggia
  • Campobasso
  • Barletta-Andria-Trani
  • Brindisi
  • Taranto
  • Lecce
  • Matera
  • Cosenza
  • Crotone
  • Catanzaro
  • Reggio Calabria

Of these provinces in some, those of Emilia Romagna, Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia, the change in the frequencies of local broadcasters will be definitive. In all the others a provisional attendance will be assigned. In Restricted Area C the frequencies will change over the time span included between 1 September and 31 December 2021.
