Digital education as an answer to the time after Corona

According to the Study published by the Spanish Instituto de Expertos Digitales de UNIR (Universidad en Internet) 61.8% of young people in Spain believe that their professional environment will be affected by the effects of digitization. The problem with this is that there is a fairly large proportion of young people (4 in 10) who do not feel sufficiently prepared to improve their working conditions or to find a new job. According to the study’s authors, this means that many talented young people feel frustrated by an insecure environment that puts their career aspirations at risk. For the study, 800 people between the ages of 18 and 39 were interviewed by telephone in June 2020.

Digital pent-up demand

According to data from the study, 7 out of 10 young people intend to improve their knowledge and training of digital skills. This shows once again that the education systems fail to offer training that is adapted to the needs of an increasingly digitized labor market. The latest PISA report also reveals that the Spanish Math and science students still below the OECD average lie. Both STEM subjects (Mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology) the proportion of people with a university degree per thousand young people aged 20 to 29 was 16.5% in the European Union in 2016 (latest available data) and 12.8% in Spain in 2018 %.

Mobile working en vogue

The UNIR study also announces new trends in the professional contexts preferred by young people: the majority are in favor of teleworking, and exactly 80% would like to work from home. And entrepreneurship has consolidated as a preferred work option. 7 out of 10 young people attach importance to developing their own projects in order to face the new employment scenario.
