French humorist Dieudonné responded to the summons to the Geneva Public Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday, after having failed him in January. Justice opened a procedure against him after the filing of complaints for Holocaust deniers.
The Inter-Community Coordination against Antisemitism and Defamation (CICAD) filed a complaint in July for racial discrimination and insult in connection with the remarks that the French polemicist made last year in Geneva and in Nyon (VD), in his show “In truth”. The association considers that he denied the existence of the gas chambers and that he publicly cursed it.
On Tuesday, upon his arrival at the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Dieudonné declared that he was “happy” to be heard by the justice of Geneva. “This is a continuation of the Pascal Bernheim case. I had filed a complaint at the time and it had been classified as an opportunity. I know that there is a greater freedom of expression here to France, “he said in yellow shorts, sneakers and socks.
In 2009, the Attorney General had classified the complaint filed by the comedian against the producer of the RSR who had treated him as “negro” in a program of the RTS of 2008. Considering that this decision makes jurisprudence, Dieudonné was said “confident” about the continuation of the new procedure: “I do not see how this case could not be closed in opportunity.”
The parties had an appointment at 3.30pm with the first prosecutor to hear the case. They came out of the Public Ministry shortly before 17:00.
