Did you know ? A lawyer defeated himself by trying to prove the strength of a window

There are acts that it is better not to attempt. If everything may seem ideal and safe to us, an accident happens very quickly. Indeed, whether it is silly challenges or trivial acts, we never know what can happen to us. This was the case with Garry Hoy. Because did you know that this man defeated himself by testing the strength of the windows on the 24th floor?

Garry Hoy was a well-known lawyer working at the firm Holden Day Wilson in Toronto. Garry was proud of the construction of the building he worked in. Indeed, the windows of the Toronto Dominion Center were unbreakable. In addition, Garry had made a habit of demonstrating their effectiveness. What seemed like a trivial act turned out not to be a very good idea …

Sure enough, on July 9, 1993, as he welcomed a group of potential interns into his practice, Garry, who also had an engineering degree and was passionate about modern construction, repeated his test. Something he had done many times before, and which had proven to be harmless since he was bouncing off the glass. At least until this tragic moment.

Garry Hoy once again threw himself on one of the windows on the 24th floor. The first time, Garry bounced off the window, as had always happened. However, when he attempted his demonstration a second time, the glass came off its frame and Garry fell with it from the 24th floor.

Unfortunately, this story made Garry Hoy something of a celebrity. Indeed, his unusual death gave birth to many urban legends. She was also the subject of episodes of MythBusters and 1000 Ways to Die. But, it won him a Darwin Award in 1996, an “award” given to people who have died stupidly.
