Sciensano’s figures indicate that this rise in contamination – which resumed around mid-July – follows phase 4 of deconfinement and the expansion of the bubble to 15 people.
During the crisis center press conference on Friday, several experts insisted on the usefulness of returning to a bubble limited to five people per household. According to a study from the universities of Antwerp and Hasselt, this reduction would reduce future hospitalizations due to the coronavirus by 90%.
Yves Coppieters, interviewed on the RTBF set, was not convinced by these graphics. “We are presented with a theoretical model, reassuring and surely justifying the effect of this bubble of 5 compared to the bubble of 15, but it is a measure that has not shown its effects in terms of scientific evidence”, he stressed. On the other hand, the epidemiologist insists on the need to increase tests to slow the rise in contamination.
