Diablo IV’s Classes May Not Always Be Balanced Against Each Other, According to Blizzard’s Explanation

Many players who had a chance to enjoy the Diablo IV Early Access beta realized that the classes in the game are not balanced. Those responsible have wanted to clarify this issue, pointing out that they are not and that they never will be due to the characteristics that each one presents.

In an interview with the media NMERod Fergusson spoke about the imbalance felt between the classes in Diablo IV, noting that it is somewhat intentional due to the fact that they can’t all have the same power at the same time. The general manager of the Diablo franchise stated that while some classes are better than others at first, this is something changes throughout the game.

“There’s a lot of balance there, but the trick of the balance is that it’s a balance over timenot something of the moment,” Fergusson began explaining. “Not all classes should have the same power.”

To clarify this a bit, Fergusson made a comparison between classes: “Due to specializing in enchantments, Wizards will have more abilities than any other class, because since Barbarians have four weapons, they will have more legendary slots than any other class. If we take that into account, there will be times when a Barbarian will have less power than other classes“.

The Barbarians class has been the one that has worried the players the most, since it is presented as the weakest class in Diablo IV. However, this is only at the beginning, as the power of the Barbarians is increasing: “When you reach level 30 or 40 […] the Barbarians become very strong.”

One must also take into account what Ferguson calls the “skills gap”which refers to the characteristics and abilities of each class:”Then there are things around the skill gap, which I think is built in. I think the agility and mobility of a Rogue is more difficult to play than a Necromancer who has 12 skeletons fighting at his side and can send to fight”.

Even so, there are adjustments to be made in Diablo IV

Joe Shelly, director of Diablo IV, recognized GamesRadar what the team still has to make some changes to the classes. However, he assured that the differences between them will continue to exist, thus reaffirming everything Fergusson said.

“We don’t want a player to think the Barbarian is weak at low levels. […] Of course, in a game like Diablo IV, the classes are not balanced so that everyone has exactly the same power level 35, 36, 37 and more“.

With the Diablo IV Early Access beta more than celebrated, players will have a new (or first) opportunity to enjoy the Blizzard title on next weekend (March 24-26, 2023). Learn about all the bugs that were present in the first beta to prepare yourself as well as possible for the next open beta.
