DUBAI, UAE, Jan. 28, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Dhai Dubai, the first Emirati-organized light art festival, presented a 10-day illuminating program at Expo City Dubai. The event pays tribute to the exquisite artistic tapestry of Emirati talent through a series of impactful artistic projections, interactive installations, insightful talks and creative workshops. The festival, which will run from January 26 to February 4, is free and has been created and organized by Expo City Dubai, in collaboration with AGB Creative and the Dubai Arts and Cultural Authority.
Dr. Najat Makki – The Scent of Memories – Dhai Dubai Light Art Festival
Among the artists who will illuminate the opening ceremony are Mattar Bin Lahej, known for designing the calligraphic façade of the Museum of the Future, the pioneering artist Dr. Najat Makki, awarded the Knight of Arts and Letters of France, the co-founder of the Emirates Fine Arts Society, Dr. Mohamed Yousef, the designer Abdulla Almulla, who participated in last year’s London Design Biennale, the multidisciplinary artist Maitha Hamdan, the prestigious designer Khalid Al Shafar, known for his collaboration with the Louvre of Abu Dhabi and the celebrated visual artist Reem Al Ghaith.
Meanwhile, Al Wasl Plaza’s iconic 130-metre-wide dome will come to life with a series of special projections titled Sister of the Desert, inspired by the late Emirati artist Dhabia Juma Lamlah, who produced more than 200 extraordinary works of art despite of not being able to use the right hand. Reflecting Dubai’s spirit of multicultural collaboration, the exhibition also features special guests, including Australian artist Rene Kulitja and South African artist Dr. Esther Mahlangu, who weave a narrative of resilience and cross-cultural connectivity.

Dhai Dubai supports the Liter of Light initiative, which is a globally popular movement, which aims to provide excellent quality solar lighting to people with limited access to electricity in the floating images of the Agusan Swamp in the Philippines. Those who attend the festival can also pledge to contribute to Liter of Light’s mission in communities in the Philippines, Kenya, Cameroon and India.
