DFW Airports and Love Field close due to covid-19 outbreak

Updated news

The Federal Aviation Agency suspended flight arrivals and departures from DFW International and Dallas Love Field airports on Wednesday following a COVID-19 case at one of the major regional hubs in Fort Worth.

The FAA expected to reopen this regional air traffic center at 5:30 pm after a disinfection process, according to a statement from Elizabeth Cory, a spokeswoman for the agency. The airports closed at 3 p.m., according to the FAA ruling.

These suspensions have become routine since the beginning of the pandemic, but it occurs during one of the busiest periods of the year. Rain and winds also stopped air traffic on Wednesday.

As of Wednesday afternoon there were 181 delays and 15 cancellations at the two airports. This can have a domino effect on air traffic nationwide as DFW is one of the main air hubs for American Airlines. Love Field is the main campus of Southwest.

There have been around 22 cases of covid-19 among employees of the FAA Air Traffic Control in Fort Worth. The air hub is located south of DFW International Airport
