DFB-Pokal: Professional clubs will probably get home rights against amateurs

It has always been the dream of many amateur clubs: to compete against one of the big players at home in the stadium. For decades, numerous village clubs were able to fulfill this dream in the DFB Cup; for everyone involved, they are games they will remember for a lifetime.

In the coming season, which is scheduled to begin on September 12 with the first round of the cup, the effects of the Corona pandemic will apparently ensure that these magical evenings do not begin.

VfL Wolfsburg’s sports boss Jörg Schmadtke has indicated that the professional clubs will automatically receive home rights in the new season in the first round of the cup.

Because the professional clubs apparently automatically receive home rights in the cup competition. This has now been announced by Jörg Schmadtke (56), sports boss of VfL Wolfsburg.

According to a report by the “Sportbuzzer”, the corona-related requirements for gaming operations. Schmadtke explained: “Before the start of the European qualification, we play the first round in the DFB Cup – probably with a changed home right, because it is not clear whether the amateur clubs can implement the hygiene concept.”

After the resumption of play in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga, the DFL received praise from many observers for its hygiene concept. However, it also seems clear: In many stadiums of subclass clubs – including the regional league – it will be difficult to implement this. The plans have not yet been officially confirmed by the DFB.
