DFB-Pokal 2020/2021: results, dates, TV broadcast, draw, information – football

It goes on in the cup!

After the final of the DFB Cup 19/20 was played in July and Bayern won the title for the 20th time (4: 2 against Leverkusen), the 20/21 cup continues. The first round was drawn on July 26th and played for the first time in mid-September. The semi-finals will take place on April 30th and May 1st.

You can find all information here at a glance.

Which teams are there?

64 teams take part. Namely the teams of the Bundesliga, the 2nd division and the 3rd division of the past season. These are made up of:

  • The 18 teams from the Bundesliga
  • The 18 teams from the 2nd Bundesliga
  • The four best third division teams without Bayern Munich’s second team
  • The 21 regional cup winners of the 21 regional associations
  • Three clubs from the regional associations that have the most teams in play (Bavaria, Westphalia and Lower Saxony)

However, it is still unclear which 64 teams will be in 2020/2021. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the state cup competitions were interrupted nationwide. It is still unclear whether and how they can be played to the end.

The cup mode

The team drawn first has home rights. Actually.

Because: Because the DFB’s hygiene concept cannot be enforced at some venues, the home law could be swapped in 2020/2021. It is also possible that the amateur clubs that are unable to implement the hygiene concept move to nearby suitable stadiums from professional teams.

If there is no winner after the normal playing time, the cup game will be extended by 2×15 minutes. If there is still no decision after extra time, the winner will be determined by penalty shoot-out.
