Rafael Devers and Hunter Renfroe homered, Nick Pivetta scored the win for the third straight start and the Boston Red Sox defeated the Baltimore Orioles 4-3 on Sunday.
Boston has won five of its last six games and owns the best major league record, 22-13. For their part, the Orioles fell to the worst major league record for home games, 4-13, which includes 0-6 against the Red Sox.
Devers, who hit his home run off Baltimore starter Dean Kremer in the second inning, added a two-run double to reliever Adam Plutko’s pitch in the sixth inning to give Boston a 3-2 lead.
Renfroe drove a solo homer off Cole Sulser in the eighth inning.
Pivetta (5-0) gave up two runs and three hits in six innings to improve to 7-0 since being traded from Philadelphia to Boston in August last year. He is only the fourth starter in franchise history to win at least his first seven decisions with the team, joining George Winter (7-0 in 1901), Dave Ferriss (8-0 in 1945) and John Burkett (7- 0 in 2002).
Matt Barnes had his eighth save in as many attempts as he pitched a perfect ninth.
Baltimore shortstop Freddy Galvis extended his streak of games with at least one hit to 10 with a single in the fourth inning.
For the White Sox, the Dominicans Devers 4-2 with a career scored and three RBIs, and Franchy Cordero 4-0. The Mexican Álex Verdugo 5-1 with scored. Venezuelan Marwin González 5-3 with a run scored.
For the Orioles, the Venezuelan Galvis 4-1. The Dominican Pedro Severino 3-0.
