Detroit Red Wings Triumph Over Philadelphia Flyers in Thrilling Match, Patrick Kane Scores Two Goals

Updated 07.39 | Published 07.36

NEW YORK. The whole sea stormed between Detroit and Philadelphia last night.

The Red Wings jumped out to an early 5-1 lead, but the Flyers came back and turned it around – only to eventually see their opponents win on penalty kicks.

– Sometimes it’s difficult when you get off to such a good start, says two-goal shooter Patrick Kane.

Initially, it looked like the Detroit Red Wings were going to run over the visitors from Philadelphia so it was just chatter about it.

Patrick Kane made it 1-0 after four and a half minutes and 2-0 just under four minutes later and before the first period was over it was 5-1.

But in the second the Flyers ate into the game with two goals and in the third came the real push. They both chased and passed, but just moments after Owen Tippett punched in the 6-5 puck, Dylan Larkin equalized.

“Fought to victory”

And in the end, the Wings won on penalties – after goals from Kane and Lucas Raymond, who also provided two assists in the match.

– Sometimes it’s actually difficult when you get such a good start, says Kane in a TV interview afterwards.

– You unknowingly take your foot off the gas when you lead 5-1 and they managed to gain momentum with their aggressiveness. But I’m proud of how the boys fought their way to victory in any case.

At Madison Square Garden, the New York Rangers had a 1-0 lead against Edmonton after two periods – after Mika Zibanejad made one of the year’s plays to Blake Wheeler – but in the third the visitors turned up the intensity and turned within six minutes to 4-1- management.

Mentioned Zibanejad and Will Cuylle then each scored a reduction, but the last one came with just one second remaining and by then it was too late.

– Very strong of us to beat such a good team, especially as we also played yesterday, says Mattias Ekholm, who accounted for two assists.

– It’s very nice to go on Christmas leave with two victories behind me.
