Soldier United States of America started arriving in Poland this Saturday (5/2) as part of NATO’s move to send additional troops due to fears of a possible invasion Russia ke Ukraine.
“The first group has arrived at the airport in Jesionka in southwestern Poland,” Polish military spokesman Major Przemyslaw Lipczynski told the news agency. AFP, Saturday (5/2/2022).
He added that most of the 1,700 contingent the US army will arrive “soon”.
He said that the US soldiers who arrived today were from the 82nd Division.
Last week, Washington said it would send about 3,000 additional troops to eastern Europe to defend NATO members from “aggression”.
Washington currently has 2,000 troops stationed in the US. They were flown to Germany and Poland. About another 1,000 US troops already in Germany are being sent to Romania.
Russia has denied allegations of planning to invade Ukraine, but has deployed more than 100,000 troops near the Ukrainian border. Russia said it could take military action if its demands were not met.
