Dessel Sport continues its advance with a big win against Thes Sport: “All the pieces of the puzzle are falling together” (Dessel)

Dessel set the tone from the kick-off. Operating from the left flank, Milts weaved through the visiting defense several times and put goalkeeper Roekaerts to work. It was only a matter of time until the opening goal was scored. After about fifteen minutes, Dessel was helped considerably in that search. When the ball went outside, Terry Osei-Berkoe held the ball too long for opponent Mitchel Keulen, who pushed the Dessel player. The referee didn’t hesitate and immediately drew red. “I have not seen that action and therefore cannot judge,” said Livio Milts. “What I do know is that that red card had a big impact on the match. We had already gotten off to a good start, but now we could play football from an armchair. Thes has not come out since, so we could wait patiently and strike at the right time.”

That moment came on the half hour, when Milts pushed the ball into Fasmi’s barrel, who posted the 1-0 on the scoreboard. “A deserved lead, although more balls could have hit the ropes,” Milts continues. “During half time we were asked to increase the tempo and increase the pressure on the visitors. That paid off, because in just ten minutes I scored twice to secure the victory. Unfortunately we conceded another goal.”

The star is more than satisfied with his own match. “I always stand between the lines with the intention of being important to the team. I succeeded in that tonight. Our team, but also every individual player, is currently in a strong upward spiral and that means we are playing football with enormous confidence. We now record a good 16 out of 18,” concludes the wing attacker, who is also still under contract next year.

Coach Bart Janssens’ shirt was quite wet in the dressing room after the celebration, but that did not bother him in the least. “You notice a lot of fun in the group. The results of the past few weeks have of course helped with this,” says the trainer. “Everything has been running almost perfectly lately. The ball circulation, the running lines, the realization that you have to work hard when you lose the ball; all the puzzle pieces fall into place. We have been training for this for a long time, but now it is also fully reflected during competitions. Since our recovery after the winter break, we have moved up considerably in the rankings. As far as I’m concerned, that movement is not over yet,” Janssens concludes.
