Despite the crisis, record registrations for the next Polytech entrance exam, including a thirteen-year-old teenager

The next entrance exam to Polytech will be held for the first time at Heysel. It will welcome no less than 566 students on July 1 and 2. A new record for this exam to access studies in civil engineering.

The number of registrants increases every year by 10% but, this time, it explodes. One would have thought that the situation would have dampened the enthusiasm of the candidates, some of whom have not had class lessons for several months. Were they going to feel ready? One could also fear that the sanitary conditions and the virus which circulates always cool enthusiasms. On the contrary!

566 candidates is unheard of. This edition is going to be quite a challenge“, announces Jérémie Roland, professor at the École Polytechnique de Bruxelles – ULB and secretary of the jury for the Special Admission Examination. Despite the health crisis, the number of candidates has soared.”Ten years ago, we had less than 300 registered in first session, but since then, we register an increase of approximately 10% each year“, he testifies.

Registrants aged 13 to over 50

The profile of the candidates is also astonishing. If a few 15-16 year olds usually try their luck, this time the exam is only one 13 year old student. Conversely, some candidates are over 50 years old. “They are sometimes parents who register at the same time as their children to encourage them, in their own way.“, smiles Jérémie Roland.

“Safely”

This edition of the admission examination will also be exceptional in terms of its organization, entirely redesigned to comply with the latest health recommendations. “The ULB has decided to move the events to Palace 3 of the Heysel. We will thus have the best conditions for welcoming students safely“, explains Thomas Lessinnes, professor at the École polytechnique de Bruxelles – ULB and president of the jury.

On the mornings of July 1 and 2, 2020 in Brussels, 566 candidates will take part in the special admission examination tests (trigonometry, geometry, algebra and analysis) with one objective: to gain access to studies in civil engineering. If one of the tests fails, the candidates will have a second session organized at the end of August / beginning of September.
