The corona numbers in Brandenburg are very low, but the cabinet does not want to decide any further easing for the time being. New decisions are not due to be made until the end of July – for some this is not going quickly enough.

The currently applicable Corona measures in Brandenburg will be extended until July 31. The cabinet decided that, as the State Chancellery announced on Friday.
Although the infection process in the country has been defused in the long term, from an epidemiological point of view, countermeasures should not be lifted too quickly, it said as a justification. The 7-day incidence in the country is well below the national average, but is increasing slightly – most recently from 2 to 2.9 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants.

The report also states that due to the spread of the Delta variant and the insufficiently high level of vaccination protection, the Robert Koch Institute still rates the health risk to the population as high overall.
The apparent absence of Corona should not induce one to become reckless, warned State Secretary for Health Michael Ranft. “The Delta variant is gaining ground faster than the vaccine. Unfortunately, the pace of vaccination has slowed down significantly recently.” Almost 38 percent of Brandenburgers have been fully vaccinated so far, around 54 percent have received an initial vaccination.
The next cabinet meeting is scheduled for July 20th. The state government will then “deal with the key values of the next handling ordinance, also with a view to the coming school year and the implementation of the nationwide framework for major events,” said the state chancellery. The decision on the revision of the corona measures should then be made in the following week.

Criticism of this scheduling comes from cultural organizers in Brandenburg. The founder of the Niederlausitz festival “Wilde Möhre”, Alexander Dettke, criticized a decision on major events at the end of July as too late. The dates of the festivals are imminent, but the organizers do not know how many tickets they can sell.
The cultural organizers are demanding a faster decision from the state government. According to a decision by the Bund-Länder-Round at the beginning of the week, large events with up to 25,000 people can take place if the incidence is less than 35 days. However, details must be decided by the federal states.
