Des Enfants et des Arbres: Association Planting Trees with Children and Farmers, 14,000 Children and 90,000 Trees Planted

“Des Enfants et des Arbres” is an association which, for several years, has invited children, from elementary school to college, to plant trees with farmers. At the end of the fourth planting season, which will end in mid-March, these will already be 14,000 children who planted more than 90,000 trees alongside 330 farmers.

The main missions of the association are as follows:

• Support the agricultural world in its agroecological transition so that it becomes a collective and unifying affair.
• Collectively take care of the common goods of soil, water, biodiversity and air.
• Replant the hedgerows which disappear each year to the tune of 23,000 km of hedges while according to the Paris agreements, 20,000 km of hedges/year must be planted by 2050
• Raise children’s awareness of the challenges of agriculture, the virtues of trees outside the forest, the role of hedges, biodiversity, etc.
• Encourage vocations, because nearly 50% of farmers will retire in 2030, and we must think about succession.
• Discover nature, in order to better respect it and take care of it from an early age.
• Feeling useful in the face of environmental issues while protecting them from guilt or the feeling of helplessness, by inviting them to the heart of the solutions to transmit to them a taste for commitment.

“Children and Trees”’s mission is to create joyful, impactful and unifying synergies between, on the one hand, an agricultural world that we wish to support in its agroecological transition, helping it to bring back living things as a production partner. , on the other, to connect it with the younger generation to invite it to be reconnected to living things, to its food, to those who produce it and also to its capacity to transform the world. And all this, thanks to the tree as a link, both to provide very concrete solutions to the challenges of soil erosion, climate change, and problems linked to water or air.

4 operations carried out in Hérault at the beginning of February

Among all these planting operations since the start of winter, several dozen have taken place in the south of France. At the beginning of February, no less than 4 operations took place in the department of Hérault alone, at Notre Dame de Londres, Félines-Minervois, Saint-Geniès-des-Mourgues and Vic la Gardiole. In total, 800 trees were planted by 200 children.

In the region, as shown the website map, plantations also concern neighboring departments, particularly south of Carcassonne, in Roullens, or in the Pyrénées-Orientales in Rivesaltes, Céret and Argelès-sur-Mer.
