Derby time: Regensburg polar bears travel to bottom Bayreuth – Regensburger Nachrichten

Second derby in four days for second division ice hockey team Eisbären Regensburg. Already tonight we are away against the Bayreuth Tigers. The preliminary report on the game, now on Regensburger Nachrichten.

Today, Friday, January 20th, the Domstädter will take on the Bayreuth Tigers from 8 p.m. The Franconians are 14th and bottom of the table and have only scored 26 points so far. But the people from Donau-Stadt, who are in ninth place with 51 points, are warned: In the three previous meetings they have already lost their feathers twice.

Review of the last encounters against Bayreuth

In the first duel with their old rivals on the first day of the game, Regensburg went home 3-0 winners (goals: Erik Keresztury, Topi Piipponen and Constantin Ontl). But away from home, the Upper Palatinate gave up a temporary 3-1 lead and only won 4-3 after overtime (goals: Corey Trivino, Nikola Gajovský, André Bühler and Marvin Schmid). Coach Max Kaltenhauser’s team then went completely empty-handed at the third showdown in the Donau-Arena in December: At that time, the Eisbären lost 4-2 (goals: Corey Trivino and Marvin Schmid). In today’s game, the polar bears want to start a small winning streak again.

Personally still shaky

The EWC, which will probably have to do without the injured Erik Keresztury and Lukas Wagner (both strikers) and Patrick Demetz (defence), have been warned. The most recent 4:2 derby win against EV Landshut, with which the Regensburg team returned to the road to success after four defeats in a row, should give them self-confidence.

Eight losses from ten games

Despite numerous changes in the squad and behind the gang this season, Bayreuth is still not in step. Since the beginning of the season, they have been in last place in the table almost without interruption. There were also eight defeats in the last ten games – during this time the Wagnerstadters only scored in three games (six points). For comparison: During this time, the polar bears scored in five games, three straight wins and two overtime defeats. The Red Main team was recently plagued by personnel worries: in the 8-3 defeat in Ravensburg on Sunday, the team started with just 13 field players. But just two days later, some players returned to the squad – but it still resulted in a 2:5 home defeat against Freiburg. Top scorer Ville Järveläinen took part in both games. The fine Finnish technician scored a total of three goals in the two encounters and has 14 goals and 21 assists for 35 points in as many games throughout the season.

Already this weekend: highlight game against Crimmitschau

The next home game for the Eisbären is on Sunday, January 22, from 5 p.m. against the Eispiraten Crimmitschau, a direct competitor in the DEL-2 table, in the Donau-Arena. The game is not sold out yet. Tickets are available online or at the box office.
