Derby d’Italia: Inter vs Juventus Match Ends in Heavy Loss for Juventus

The match between Inter and Juventus is called the Derby d’Italia.

But the difference in the domestic trophy cabinet is great, between Italy’s most and second most champions. Both head-to-head and league matches, Juventus have always had a big advantage over Inter.

This season, the first match of the season between the teams ended 1–1 at the Allianz Stadium in Turin.

Since that game in November, neither team has lost a single game.

The match then?

Inter applied high pressure immediately and came in wave after wave, but few really dangerous chances were created. Juventus had a hard time getting out of the press, but at least protected the goal creditably.

Juventus’ top scorer Dusan Vlahovic grabbed the attention and went hard in some duels, he was also cautioned early in the match. Something that caused the Serbs to change their approach a little, probably in order not to risk deportation.

Juventus was not enough – heavy loss in the rival meeting

Although Juventus created individual counterattacks, they didn’t really get close in the first half. Instead, centre-back Federico Gatti happened to direct Matteo Darmian’s cross into his own goal. At first it looked like Marcus Thuram put his foot there and steered the ball in, but the replays showed that Gatti was last on the ball.

In the second half, Inter were better, but it would prove very difficult to “close” the match. Juventus’ hallmark during the season has been a strong defense and they have been masters at closing games at 1-0.

On Sunday, they now needed to chase an equaliser. Something they couldn’t manage to arrange, even if they really tried.

Now it’s a little uphill for Juventus, who want to chase a first league title in four years. Four points up to Inter, who also have a game less played than Juventus.
