Denny Laine, co-founder of The Moody Blues and Wings, has died at the age of 79. The British singer and guitarist was struggling with a lung disease.

“My sweet husband passed away peacefully early this morning,” Laine’s wife Elizabeth Hines wrote on her husband’s Facebook account. “He and I both believed he would overcome his adversities and return to the rehabilitation center and ultimately home.”

Laine was one of the founders of The Moody Blues in 1964 and sang on the song, among other things Go Now, the group’s first hit. In 1966 he left the band.

He founded the band Wings with Paul McCartney in 1971. McCartney’s then wife Linda was also part of the band. Laine was the guitarist until the group disbanded in 1981. He remained in touch with McCartney and played on several albums by the former Beatle.

Laine subsequently released several more solo albums. His last appeared in 2008.
