Denmark’s Defense Ministry Chief Reveals Plans to Coordinate with Allies for Fighter Aircraft Transfer to Ukraine Ahead of Summer

Acting Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said that, according to his expectations, the decision of the kingdom together with the allies to transfer Western fighters to Ukraine will be made before the summer. He attributed this to the fact that deliveries of Soviet MiG-29 fighters from Poland and Slovakia had already begun.

Mr. Poulsen said that the decision takes a long time, because it requires the consent of all parties. “Denmark will not do this alone. We must do this together with several countries. We will also discuss this situation with the United States,” Troels Lund Poulsen quoted AFP as saying.

Since the beginning of 2023, Ukraine has been asking for the supply of American F-16 fighters. US President Joe Biden has repeatedly argued that Ukraine does not need weapons of this type.

Meanwhile, in February, The New York Times, citing sources, reported that the US presidential administration was considering developing an agreement allowing other countries to re-export F-16s. This possibility was allowed in Estonia.

On March 18, Slovakia signed an agreement with Ukraine on the transfer of 13 MiG-29 fighters, later it was reported that four units had already been sent. Poland announced the transfer of the first batch of MiG-29s on April 3.
