The Danish Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksenannounced this Thursday an agreement on security guarantees with Ukraine for the next ten years and a new military aid package to Kiev for 1.7 billion crowns (228 million euros).

The package, the fifteenth approved by Copenhagen since the beginning of the Russian military intervention in Ukraine two years ago, includes 15,000 artillery shells, together with the Czech Republic; as well as drones and air defense.

«Much of what we do now is related to the path towards Ukrainian membership in NATO. “We send an unequivocal signal that we fully support Ukraine.”Frederiksen said at a press conference.

The new aid package will be financed in the so-called fund for Ukraine, approved last March by the Danish Parliament and with an allocation of 69.1 billion crowns (9.269 million euros) until 2028.

«Now that we are entering the third year of the war, more needs to be done. “You can’t win a war with words, that’s why allies must donate more.”said social democrat Frederiksen, who heads a coalition government with two liberal forces.

The security guarantee pact is similar to those signed in recent days between Ukraine y United Kingdom, Germany y Francein accordance with the commitment made at the NATO summit held in Vilnius last year.

During today’s appearance in Copenhagen, the Danish Minister of Defense, Troels Lund Poulsenreiterated that Denmark plans to deliver its first F-16 fighters to Ukraine next summer, six months later than planned.

The postponement is due to a delay in the training of Ukrainian pilots who will operate the planes and the equipment necessary for the training of the military.
