Dengue: Tropical Medicine calls for more contingency doctors

The Emergency Coordinator of the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Miguel Cardozo, asked the Ministry of Health more medical professionals to provide care for all patients who arrive with symptoms of dengue.

He said that on Thursday, a total of 300 people, 212 adults and 88 children arrived at the Emergency Center of the assistance center, all with feverish pictures and under suspicion of dengue.

The responsibility fell on the shoulders of only three doctors for adults and another three for pediatric patients.

“We need reinforcements because of the fact that more patients are being admitted,” said the expert.

However, he added that not everyone “has much time left” in the health center. “Yesterday 60 people were observed, six were admitted to the ward and the rest on an outpatient basis for six hours,” he told NPY.

The doctor explained that attention is divided into categories A, B and C, according to the severity criteria.

“In category A, in the emergency department we need eight doctors, for B, 16, and for C, 20,” said Cardozo.

But the need also extends to the nursing service, where at least 20 professionals are needed.

The health portfolio has at least 1,700 notifications per week, according to data from the General Directorate of Health Surveillance. However, to reach the emergency declaration you must reach 2,200.

That will imply that all Holiday Health personnel will have to report for emergency containment.

The Government will make available to the Armed Forces for the elimination of hatcheries, just like other ministries will be provided for the actions to be carried out. The national emergency could also lead to suspension of classes.

Since 2009, dengue is endemic in the country, which means that cases are recorded during the 12 months of the year.
