Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever Cases Soar in Bima City, Six Deaths Reported

BIMA– Cases of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) in Bima City have soared. From January to last June, 215 residents were exposed and six others died.

“Those are the number of cases from January to last June. As for July, no reports have come in,” said the Head of P3PL Health Office (Dikes) Bima Fitriani City, yesterday.

According to data from Health Office, dengue fever is almost evenly distributed in all sub-districts. However, when asked about the age of the patient being exposed to DHF, Fitriani was reluctant to disclose in detail.

He only confirmed that the highest number of cases of dengue fever were found in Mpunda District. This is because the local area has the densest population. “Most of the case findings are in Mpunda District. While other areas not too much,” he explained.

It is known that at the end of January the Bima City Government released data on at least 94 patients exposed to DHF. Meanwhile, only four patients were reported dead.

The handling of dengue cases at that time even attracted the attention of the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes). Until the city of Bima ended up being designated as an area with the status of an Extraordinary Event (KLB) of dengue fever.

After being declared an outbreak of dengue fever at that time, the Health Office together with the ranks of the Community Health Centers went out intensively to take precautions. They comb every village to do fogging or spraying mosquitoes.

Including distributing letters to each village government. They were asked to adopt a healthy lifestyle and work together to clean up the environment which is a breeding ground for mosquitoes. (jlo/r8)
