Dengue Fever Outbreak in Banyuwangi: Four Deaths and 220 Cases Reported

Banyuwangi, tvOnenews.com – Dengue fever (DB) that hit Banyuwangi took its toll. At least four residents of Banyuwangi died as a result of the DB attack. Besides dying, at least 220 residents contracted this disease.

Residents who died from dengue occurred in March and last June. The cause of the raging DB is due to erratic weather. Even though it is dry, it still rains. As a result, the Aedes Aegypti mosquito that causes dengue is raging.

“Data from January to June 2023, as many as 220 residents were attacked by DB. Four of them died,” said Acting Head of the Health Service, Amir Hidayat.

The highest DB case in Banyuwangi is in Banyuwangi City District. Then, Kalipuro and Rogojampi Districts. All three belong to urban areas.

“The area is actually an urban area and has minimal water absorption. It results in stagnant water which is a breeding ground for mosquitoes,” he explained.

This year’s DB case is similar to the previous year. In fact, somewhat extreme. In 2022, there will be 560 cases. Of these, 12 people died.

Anticipating a surge in cases, his party invites a healthy lifestyle to eradicate mosquito nests. Namely, the 3M movement, each draining, burying and disposing of used items which are breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Residents are also advised not to rely on fogging in preventing DB.
