Dengue fever in Reunion: nearly 700 cases in a week – Health

After a tendency to stabilize in recent weeks (1,000 cases per week), the number of reported cases currently appears to be decreasing, with nearly 700 cases recorded from May 25 to 31. However, the circulation of the virus persists in 23 municipalities on the island. The majority of the cases are still localized in the south, and the epidemic continues to progress in the west, in Saint-Paul and in Saint-Leu, as well as in Saint-Denis. The prefecture and the ARS remind the population of the importance of essential prevention measures to curb the dengue epidemic in Reunion: quickly consult a doctor in case of symptoms, protect themselves from mosquito bites and continue to protect themselves even sick to protect those close to him, and eliminate breeding sites all around his home.

These treatments are essential to fight against dengue fever and must be accompanied by daily prevention measures for Réunion Islanders.

Dengue fever recommendations

· Protect yourself from mosquito bites (repellents, mosquito nets, long clothing, diffusers), and continue to protect yourself even if you are ill so as not to contaminate those around you

· Empty everything that may contain water at their home (breeding places): saucers and small objects, checking the flow of gutters, respecting the days of removal of waste, sheltering the tires

· Consult a doctor if symptoms appear: fever possibly associated with headache, muscle / joint pain, nausea, vomiting or fatigue.

Call your doctor before going to his doctor’s office: he will decide with you the best treatment (consultation in the office or remotely) and will direct you to a laboratory of medical analyzes to confirm the diagnosis of dengue fever.
