Demon’s Souls PS5, the technical analysis of the new gameplay (which did not run in 4K)

Digital Foundry has carried out an in-depth technical analysis of Demon’s Souls per PS5, and in particular – in addition to the previous one – related to the latest gameplay exhibited at the latest PlayStation showcase.

The presentation had revealed a full-bodied section taken directly from the title that ran on Sony’s next-gen console, and with all this material it is possible to begin to understand in more detail the scope of the project’s ambitions Bluepoint Games – masters of videogame remakes.

The game was run at 1440p native resolution but, according to Digital Foundry, motion blur makes images so smooth and sharp that it is difficult to pinpoint the precise resolution even by counting pixels.

Most likely the Demon’s Souls ran on Performance mode, since the graphics-oriented one will point to native 4K. This is also indicated by the fact that there were no traces of ray-traced shadows.

Performance side, the game ran at 60fps for large stretches with only a handful of stutters here and there, quite typical for a title with ongoing development. Tearing was recorded at the top and bottom of the screen, similar to what was seen with the Shadow of the Colossus remake.

The technological leap is called huge, which makes the game the Souls most advanced from a technical and visual point of view ever. The animations have been re-worked, more stylized, but they work well in this context. The same goes for physics rebuilt from scratch, and the judgment is very positive on attacks and iterations.

Effects like rain and fire already perform well in SDR, but Digital Foundry expects the game to look even better in HDR. Loading times are “Ultra fast”: where the PS3 version gave waiting times of 11 seconds, on PS5 it took less than a second to restart.

Demon’s Souls will be available at the launch of PlayStation 5 from November 12 in Japan and the United States, and from November 19 in Europe and the rest of the world.

You can pre-order the title for the next-gen console right away by accessing the page on Demon’s Souls on Amazon
