New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has cleared an important hurdle in her election as head of state.
The 63-year-old Democrat won the primaries in New York on Tuesday, well ahead of her opponents, and will meet Trump ally Lee Zeldin in November, who opposed the Republicans, among other things, to Andrew Giuliani, the son of the ex-Trump lawyer and New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
New York is considered a liberal stronghold – anything less than a Hochul victory in November would be a huge surprise. Hochul came into office last year after Andrew Cuomo’s resignation over allegations of harassment.
