Dell’s Inexpensive Laptop with Arm Processor is the First of its Kind Supporting Windows

The Dell Inspiron 14 laptop can currently be purchased in versions with three different processor manufacturers. In addition to the mandatory models with Intel and AMD, this American company also deployed a chip from Qualcomm for the first time, namely the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 with four ARM cores Kryo 495 Gold and four Kryo 495 Silver.

It is not a flourish of the most modern technology, the chip itself comes from 2020, but its slightly modified little brother called Microsoft SQ2 is part of the Surface Pro X tablet, where it does a good job. Dell paired this chip with 8GB of memory and a 256GB SSD, expansion is not possible.

The notebook has a 14″ non-touch IPS display with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels. It measures 324 × 220 × 19 mm, weighs 1.44 kg, and a 40Wh battery has been placed inside the plastic body, which can last up to 16 hours on a single charge. The energy is then replenished by 65W adapter through one of the two USB-C connectors, which can also be used for data transfer (10 Gb/s) or image. The body also has one older USB-A 2.0, a headphone output and a microSD card reader. Network support includes Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0.

In addition to endurance, the draw is the completely silent operation thanks to the passive cooling of all components. The Inspiron 14 will offer a large multi-touch touchpad, a non-backlit keyboard, a 1080p webcam and a dual microphone. The operating system is Windows 11 Home.

The price is pleasing. The Inspiron 14 3420 costs $500 in the US (CZK 14,400 with VAT). Arm computers are usually more expensive, although they tend to be slower than those with x86 chips. However, the new product from Dell is not yet available in the Czech Republic.

On the other hand, Dell sells the Inspiron 14 5425 with an octa-core Ryzen 7 5825U, 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, more connectors, and a more useful 1200px display for work. There is also an Inspiron 14 5420 with a ten-core Intel Core i7-1255U for $650, but it has nothing to impress next to the version with an AMD chip.
