Delhaize installs 1,800 public fast-charge points | Interior

The charging points are intended for customers, but also for passers-by or residents. Delhaize sees it as an extra service, with which it also wants to stimulate the transition to more sustainable mobility.

For the installation of the charging stations, Delhaize is collaborating with the French fast charging specialist Electra, which is investing 100 million euros in the project, together with its partner EDI (Electric by D’Ieteren). Charging stations will run on green energy.

The installation of the first fast-charging station is scheduled for the fall of 2023 and Delhaize hopes to be completed by the end of 2025, says spokeswoman Ine Tassignon.

In the first place, customers of the supermarket chain will be able to use it. During a store visit, which averages 35 to 40 minutes, people can charge their electric car to 80 percent, it seems.

Customers will be able to book the charging point remotely in advance. You can pay with a bank card or through the Electra app. Passersby will also be able to use the fast charging station. Local residents will also be able to recharge their electric car outside opening hours via a regular slower charging station in the Delhaize car park.

The majority of charging stations (330) are located at the headquarters and regional distribution centers in Delhaize, followed by the province of Antwerp (232), East Flanders (190), Flemish Brabant (174), Brussels (164), West Flanders (154), Limburg (80) and about 400 in the south of the country.
