Joe Biden will face the 2022 midterm elections on November 8, which are the first significant group of elections to be held since he took office.
And it is that in these the 435 seats of the House of Representatives of the United States are chosen, and 33 or 34 of the 100 seats of the Senate.
In addition, in these elections, 34 of the 50 states elect their governors for a four-year term. While Vermont and New Hampshire elect governors for two-year terms.
But ahead of the November 8 general election, months in advance, Americans are holding primary elections. Process in which candidates are chosen who will subsequently represent a party to run for public office, whether at the local, state or federal level.
Well, let’s remember that in many states of the American Union, voters, in addition to their governors, will select their secretaries of state.
It is worth mentioning that the primary elections began on March 11 in Texas and have been taking place in stages in the various states of that country, ending until next September 13 in Delaware, Louisiana, New Hampshire and Rhode Island, to then give way to the general elections to be held in November.
So far, several North American territories have gone through this selection process, they are: Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, West Virginia, California , Iowa, Mississippi, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, and South Dakota.
Also Maine, Nevada, North Dakota, South Carolina, Virginia, Colorado, Illinois, New York, Oklahoma and Utah.
While the states that remain to carry out their primaries are:
On June 21 in the District of Columbia where the mayor will be elected and in Virginia for the House of Representatives.
On June 28 in Colorado, the candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives governor, sec. of State and Attorney General. While in Illinois, the representatives of the Senate, House of Representatives, governor, sec. of State and Attorney General.
That day the citizens of New York will do the same and determine who will be their representatives before the Senate, House of Representatives, Governor, Attorney General and Lieutenant Governor.
While in Oklahoma and Utah, members of the Senate and House of Representatives will also be elected.
July 19: Maryland; August 2: Arizona, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri and Washington; August 4: Tennessee; August 9: Connecticut, Minnesota, Vermont and Wisconsin
August 13: Hawaii. August 16: Alaska and Wyoming.
While on August 23 these will be held in Florida, on September 6: Massachusetts.
Finally, on September 13 in Delaware, Louisiana, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.
The Democrats, the party to which Biden belongs, face strong political obstacles in their quest to maintain control of both houses of Congress.
The handling of the pandemic and the mixed economic indicators are factors that Donald Trump is using on the Republican side in this campaign to weaken Joe Biden and position himself for re-election in 2024.
While polls show Biden’s approval ratings have dropped.
In addition to the above, former President Donald Trump has made early endorsements and has focused his strategy particularly on the main battlefields that he lost to Biden in 2020.
So the fight will not be easy for Biden and in the months to come it will be defined whether he maintains the majority in Congress and his government actions are strengthened or, on the contrary, external factors and the Republican Party with Donald Trump at the head they take ground. We’ll see.
