Deficit of childcare spaces | My place at work will come to the Blue Salon every Thursday

(Quebec) The organization Ma place au travail, which campaigns for Quebec to grant temporary financial assistance to families who cannot find a place in daycare for their child, announces that parents will attend question period every Thursday at the Salon blue to be seen by the government, which to date refuses their request.

The spokesperson for the movement, Myriam Lapointe-Gagnon, affirms that this initiative is already arousing the enthusiasm of parents who cannot return to work due to the shortage of daycare places in several regions of Quebec. Since the work of parliament is open to the public, parents will reserve a seat in the bleachers of the Blue Room every Thursday to attend the parliamentary work.

If the space reserved for citizens is complete, the organization says it has received confirmation that they can be invited to the stands reserved for opposition parties, which support their cause.

Bill 1: A Missed Opportunity

Mme Lapointe-Gagnon, who is very critical of the Legault government’s approach to its management of educational childcare services, believes that Family Minister Mathieu Lacombe’s Bill 1 is a “missed opportunity”. She would have liked Quebec to ensure a right of access to daycare for each child according to the same model that is applied for schools.

Bill 1 is expected to pass this week in parliament. Minister Lacombe promised in an interview with The Press that there would be no region with a shortage of places at the end of its “major project for families” in 2025. Quebec includes in the calculation the places offered in recognized childcare services, i.e. early childhood centers (CPE), subsidized and unsubsidized daycares, as well as family daycares.
