Doctors and geneticists at Radboud university medical center in Nijmegen have discovered that a defect in the genetic code of the TLR7 (Toll-like receptor 7) gene plays a role in the disease process of COVID-19 in some young people. The discovery may lead to better treatment for young, critically ill corona patients, according to the doctors. The investigation into the role of the gene was prompted by a remark by a Maastricht UMC + doctor about two young brothers who were seriously ill due to COVID-19. This was remarkable, because the elderly are particularly affected by the virus and in this case it concerned two brothers under the age of 35.
