FC Santos, which produced players like Pele and Neymar and won the Copa Libertadores three times, fell into the second division on Wednesday with a 1-2 home defeat in the last round at home to Fortaleza.
This makes FC Sao Paulo and Flamengo the only clubs in the country of the record world champions that have never been relegated. Santos is one of the biggest clubs in Brazil. The championship title went to Palmeiras, with young star Endrick’s club winning 1-1 at Cruzeiro.
