Decline in Morocco’s exports due to Covid-19

Morocco’s exports fell 18.3% in the first half of 2020 compared to the same period last year.

They contacted almost 2.48 billion euros during the first six months of 2020.

According to the authorities, this is due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Exports amounted to 11.231 billion euros against 13.752 billion the previous year.

According to the Moroccan Exchange Office, this decline can be explained by the decrease in shipments from almost all sectors.

The automotive sector led the sectors that suffered the most during this period, with export turnover which fell by 1.28 billion euros to 262.40 million euros. euros at the end of June.

Textiles come second among the sectors affected by exports. Its sales fell by 34.9%, generating 1.141 billion euros at the end of June.

According to the Foreign Exchange Office, “exports of the textile and leather sector in the first six months of 2020 were mainly affected by the decline in sales of made-up clothing and hosiery items”.

Likewise, the aeronautics sector saw its shipments drop by 18.1%, losing 141.6 million euros of their value in the first half of the year.

The export sales of agriculture and agrifood declined 4.3% from 3.207 billion euros in one year to 3.068 billion euros at the end of June.
