Debts, debts, debts! The misery of the tennis legend is deepening

The financial situation of tennis legend Boris Becker is getting worse. According to the German media, the claims of the former Becker business partner Hans-Dieter Cleven in the amount of 37.7 million euros (over a billion crowns) have now been fully recognized in the insolvency proceedings of the three-time Wimbledon winner.

Becker was declared bankrupt by a court in London in 2017 for an outstanding loan of EUR 3.5 million (CZK 90.2 million) from the private bank Arbuthnot Latham & Co in 2015. Becker’s former business partner subsequently filed for insolvency proceedings with much higher receivable.

“My client has never received the sums claimed by Mr. Cleven, so this claim is completely unfounded,” Becker’s lawyer, Christian-Oliver Moser, defended. But the tribunal sees it differently, and the deadline for objecting on Becker’s part has expired. “Boris Becker repeatedly tells lies , all attempts to find a friendly solution failed on his unreliability, “says Cleven of the former tennis superstar.

Becker received 19 million crowns from the auction of debt repayment debts

As part of insolvency proceedings, the 52-year-old Becker held an online auction last year to pay off part of his debt, in which he auctioned more than eighty items from his dazzling career, such as the trophy from winning the US Open 1989, where he defeated Ivan Lendl in the final. The yield eventually climbed over 750,000 euros (more than 19 million crowns).
