Death Toll from Malang Earthquake Raised to 7 People

The victim died as a result earthquake which rocked the southern region of Malang Regency, East Java, to 7 people as of 20.00 WIB.

In addition, there were also 2 people severely injured and 10 people slightly injured due to the earthquake this afternoon.

“The latest data is at 8:00 p.m., 7 people died,” said East Java BPBD Plt Kalaksa Yanuar Rachmadi, Saturday (10/4).


Yanuar said 3 people died in Malang Regency, 2 people died when they were hit by rubble cliffs on the way from Lumajang to Malang, and 2 people died in Lumajang Regency.

Apart from the dead victims, the earthquake also damaged a number of buildings, including 11 heavily damaged houses, 194 moderately damaged, 126 slightly damaged houses, 13 damaged houses, 1 Islamic boarding school unit damaged, 11 education facilities damaged, 6 worship facilities damaged, 7 government office units were damaged, and 1 RSUD unit was damaged.

“Until now, BPBD continues to conduct rapid assessments and coordinate with related agencies,” said Yanuar.

East Java BPBD noted that the earthquake was felt in 17 districts / cities in East Java. In addition, the earthquake was also felt in Banjarnegara, Central Java and Bali.

The affected areas include Malang Regency, Lumajang Regency, Pasuruan Regency, Blitar City, Malang City, Batu City, Blitar Regency, Sidoarjo Regency.

Then Surabaya City, Bangkalan Regency, Sampang Regency, Pamekasan Regency, Sumenep Regency, Pacitan Regency, Ponorogo Regency, Madiun Regency and Tuban Regency.
