Death Investigation Underway After Woman Found in Montech Lake: Accident, Suicide, or Crime?

Thursday, June 1, the body of a woman in her forties was found in a lake near the municipal campsite of Montech (Tarn-et-Garonne), about fifteen kilometers south of Montauban. Firefighters were unable to resuscitate her. Accidental drowning, criminal act or suicide, an investigation is underway to determine the causes of death.

It was around 10:20 p.m. that the emergency services were called. It was already dark at that time but witnesses had just seen a body floating on the surface of a lake near the municipal campsite of Montech.

They managed to get the victim out of the water and, while waiting for help to arrive, provided him with first aid.

The victim, a woman in her forties, could not be revived.

The campsite is located on the edge of the Montech canal, to the north-east of this town which has just over 6,000 inhabitants.

Drowning, suicide or criminal act?

It is unlikely that the victim was bathing at this late hour, but it is not known how long the body had been there.

The victim could have slipped and accidentally drowned.

Is this a suicide? From a criminal act? No lead has yet been ruled out by investigators. The Montauban public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation to determine the causes of death.
