In October 2021, British Phoebe Johnson (17) got into her friend Melissa’s car after a party.
According to The Independent the teenagers had been at a house party that same evening. Despite the fact that Melissa was drunk, she got behind the wheel.
18 minutes later, Melissa lost control of the car and drove off the road in Derbyshire. According to the news website, the vehicle ended up 39 meters out on a field.

Johnson, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car. She suffered head and neck injuries and died a short time later at Queens Medical Center in Nottingham.

This week the woman had to appear at Derby Crown Court. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three years in a juvenile facility. The now 20-year-old woman also lost her driving license for six and a half years.
– My hatred for you is as strong as the love I have for my daughter. Those are the two things that keep me alive, the 17-year-old’s father, Paul Johnson, told Melissa during the trial.
He continued:
– You will still have a life after serving time. I don’t have that luxury. You have taken away our future by your selfish and irresponsible actions. I hope Phoebe haunts you for the rest of your miserable life.
Melissa’s defense attorney, Stephen Cobley, said her client has shown remorse and that she has no previous criminal convictions. However, he added that the 20-year-old understands that she must be punished.
“Unfortunately, although others warned you, you did not pay attention,” said judge Shaun Smith.
“I’m afraid”
According to Sarah Slayer at the British public prosecutor’s office, Johnson must have stated that she was scared shortly before the car left the road. The reason must have been Melissa’s driving.

Just minutes before the descent, Melissa is said to have said: “When I say ‘hold on’, you hold on!”
According to several witnesses, Melissa must have stated at the party that she was “shit”. She also allegedly told the same thing to her mother during a phone call.
– We will never show you mercy, and we will never forgive you, said the father of the deceased 17-year-old.
