The Panleucopenia Virus, better known as ‘the cat’s disease’, has been reported in Ermelo and Harderwijk in the Netherlands. Veterinarians sound the alarm and call on cat owners to verify that their pets have received the correct vaccination.

The cat’s disease is a highly contagious and deadly virus and can be transmitted through feces and through fleas. The call applies not only to outdoor cats, but also to indoor cats. The virus can enter the house through shoes. That reports the Stentor.

Unvaccinated animals are particularly at risk. Due to good vaccination, the disease hardly ever occurs in the Netherlands. Symptoms of the disease include vomiting and diarrhea. A cat can also die before symptoms appear.
