Deadline for detainee in Pforzheim has expired

“I don’t know what will happen next,” says Imam Cavli, who, as reported, has been in the Pforzheim detention center for four weeks. On Friday, it should actually be flown to Turkey from Frankfurt am Main. But nothing happened.

“I didn’t hear anything and I wasn’t picked up,” he told the newspaper. According to his lawyer Bernd Strieder, who phoned the clerk at the Darmstadt regional council, Cavli should probably be picked up on Friday evening before the period of imprisonment expires on Saturday at 12 noon.

The immigration office is no longer allowed to inform the inmate of the exact date on which he is picked up. “This is a consequence of the tightening of the federal deportation law,” said Strieder.

You must always apply for a new residence permit

As reported, Cavli and four other prisoners were brought to Pforzheim in late April because the deportation facility in Darmstadt was closed.

Cavli has lived in Germany since he came here with his parents 30 years ago. He is married to a German-born Turkish woman, but only has Turkish citizenship. He therefore had to apply for the residence permit again and again.

I always felt like a German.

When asked why he never applied for German citizenship, he replied: “I always felt like a German and never thought it necessary. Turkey is a foreign country to me. “

Prison sentence for drug trafficking in Kassel

For two years he was imprisoned near Kassel for dealing in drugs. He was released early because of good leadership. When he subsequently wanted to extend his residence permit at the immigration office in Darmstadt, he was arrested.

His urgent application, with which Cavli wanted to get his immediate release from detention pending, was rejected by the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) at the beginning of May, as reported. The decision of the BGH on the legal complaint of the 38-year-old is still pending.

No feedback from the Petitions Committee on the Landtag yet

Together with the other prisoners in Pforzheim, Cavli sent a petition to the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg and Hesse. The men complain about their situation and demand that they be released from custody. They haven’t heard from the petition committees yet, Cavli said.

On request, the regional council of Darmstadt announced that it could not give details of the case of deportation.
