The person was lying dead in a room the whole time, without anyone noticing. The patient’s cause of death is not yet known.
In a statement, Peter Reading, director of the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLAG), said the inquest will need to find out exactly how the incident could have happened and why staff did not bring the patient to the morgue earlier.
“We have notified the family and I would like to express my condolences and apologize once again,” Reading said. “We will share the findings of the investigation with the family as soon as they are available. We have also reported the incident to the relevant external organizations,” explained the director.
