Regarding the lifting of these measures, Daza highlighted the care they must take when making this decision when observing each indicator and the importance of the work on traceability to identify and isolate new cases. In addition, he said, it is important to consider the harmful effects that prolonged quarantines can cause on people.
As he said, confinement “has brutal side effects” on people’s health.
“Nowadays, jobs are already coming out internationally that (would indicate that) the confinement could be even more harmful than the coronavirus. We are talking about confinement where people stay in their homes and go nowhere all day for five months. These are measures that are tremendously harmful to health, ”Daza said.
In the case of the transition to the Transition phase of Santiago, a commune that was in confinement for 144 days, the undersecretary stressed that they were “greatly” concerned not about the people who reside there, but about the number of people who pass through that commune .
“We are concerned about the floating population that may reach the commune of SantiagoThat is the most critical situation, so before advancing in this step we had to advance in the neighboring communes ”, he explained. “Because there may be a certain mobility – which we hope will not occur – of the neighboring quarantined communes.”
Asked about traceability, and if the 75% reached is sufficient, the undersecretary indicated that they hope that all the communes and the whole country “reach the beginning of the investigation at least 80%”. “It is what we have set as a parameter to be able to advance from one step to another,” he said.
“Santiago this week reached 75%. It must be said that in the previous weeks it had over 80% … That is not enough, but we have to strengthen this measure for when the Metropolitan Region is not defined it will have higher indicators ”, he added.
About yesterday’s announcement where the president of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, indicated that his country will manufacture the vaccine for the University of Oxford, considered the most advanced in the world to face the coronavirus, the undersecretary indicated that she did not handle further information in this regard, but that she considered it as something positive.
