Daylight Saving Time Sparks Debate in Parliament Over Early Work Hours – Masrawy

Questions arose during the meeting of the Local Administration Committee, to discuss the return of daylight savings time, as Representative Ihab Mansour, deputy of the Manpower Committee in the House of Representatives, said that this law was applied from 2014 when the law was issued to implement daylight savings time, then the law was canceled in 2017, continuing: “Who From 2014 to 2016, what happened until the cancellation was made? This came during a meeting of the Local Administration Committee in the House of Representatives, headed by Representative Ahmed Al-Segini, today, Wednesday, during the discussion of the Prime Minister’s decision on a draft law regarding the determination of the daylight savings system.

Representative Reham Abdel Nabi, a member of the Local Administration Committee, said that the issue of electricity and water losses needs a session in the presence of the Minister of Electricity and the Minister concerned with water, and she agreed with the claimants as the hour came early.

After that, the Local Administration Committee in the House of Representatives, headed by Representative Ahmed Al-Sigini, issued a recommendation to the government to study issuing a decision to advance the official working hours in all government institutions and agencies.

During the meeting, most of the committee members agreed on the necessity of early working hours, due to its importance in maximizing and increasing production and saving energy, and that there be measures on the ground to rationalize electricity and water consumption and save energy. They requested that a session be held later in the presence of the Ministers of Electricity and Local Development.

Representative Muhammad al-Husseini, deputy of the Local Administration Committee, called on the Ministry of Electricity to submit a statement to the committee on the loss of electricity, and the measures taken to control this issue and address the theft of electric current, and requested the presence of the Minister of Electricity.

Al-Husseini stressed the need to take a decision to advance the official working hours in the government, noting that this is the case in many developed countries.

For his part, Representative Muhammad Wafiq, deputy of the Local Administration Committee, asked government representatives to provide the committee with studies prepared on this subject, whether in relation to the summer time system and the reasons for returning to work with it, as well as ways to save and rationalize energy.
