Day of ‘triple-doubles’ on Monday in the NBA

Monday’s NBA day had the impressive outcome that at least three players finished with ‘triple-doubles’ for their teams on the eight-game schedule.

First, the valuable Greek of the Milwaukee Bucks, Giannis Antetokounmpo, accumulated 31 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists in his team’s 133-122 victory over the Washington Wizards, who had Russell Westbrook with 23 points, 17 assists and … five rebounds.

A little later, in Brooklyn, James Harden finished with 21 points, 15 rebounds and 15 assists for the Nets to beat the New York Knicks 117-112. For the Knicks, Julius Randle had 33 points, 12 rebounds and six assists, falling short.

From Luka Doncic it is not uncommon to hear that he recorded another ‘triple-double’, but in his case his Dallas Mavericks fell 109-99 against the Los Angeles Clippers despite his 25 points, 10 rebounds and 16 assists. For the Clippers winners, Ivica Zubac had 15 points and 11 rebounds, but only one assist.

In Antetokounmpo’s case, it was their third straight triple-double and it helped Milwaukee win their fourth game in line.

The Bucks took off late in the game after allowing a 26-point lead to drop to five midway through the fourth period. As the Wizards got close to seven in the final minutes, Antetokounmpo scored the next seven goals to restore a double-digit margin.

Antetokounmpo became the third player this season to triple-double in three consecutive games, joining Westbrook, who did it twice, and Miami’s Jimmy Butler. With the seventh ‘triple-double’ of 30 points in his career, he passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the first place in the history of the franchise, in addition to being the first player in the history of the Bucks with a ‘triple-double’ in three games in a row.

In Brooklyn, Kyrie Irving added 34 points to join Harden for his 10th triple-double of the season.

Jeff Green scored 20 points and the Nets had 14 wins in 14 games, including Kevin Durant missing in the last 12 due to hamstring discomfort in his left leg.

The Knicks are going through a difficult stretch of the schedule against Milwaukee, Brooklyn and Philadelphia, the top three places in the Eastern Conference, in their first four games after the All-Star break.

In Dallas, Kawhi Leonard scored 22 points, Marcus Morris Sr. added another 14 in a rare starter game, and the Los Angeles Clippers spoiled Doncic’s effort.

The Clippers responded to a 51-point loss to Dallas earlier in the season and a 20-point setback to New Orleans the night before to remain the only team still unbeaten on the second night of consecutive games. Los Angeles went 7-0 and tied Phoenix (7-1) for the most wins in those games.

The Clippers won for only the second time in six games, while Dallas posted its second loss in its last seven games.

Paul George scored 15 points and seven Clippers players finished in double-digit figures.

In other matches of the day, Phoenix 122, Memphis 99; Charlotte 122, Sacramento 116; San Antonio 109, Detroit 99.
