Dāvis Simans’ film “A Year Before the War” triumphs at the “Great Kristaps” ceremony

Dāvis Sīmanis’ film “The Year Before the War” triumphed with eight awards at the National Film Awards ceremony this year, however, Laila Pakalniņa was recognized as the best director in the film “In the Mirror”.

“The Year Before the War” was recognized as the best feature film, the film’s screenwriters Sīmanis, Tabita Rudzāte and Uldis Tīrons and the cinematographer Andrejs Rudzāts were also recognized as the best in their category.

Peter Buchta, who played the role in the film “A Year Before the War”, was recognized as the best actor, the best actor in the background was Lauris Dzelzītis, the best film artist – Kristīne Jurjāne, the best make-up artist – Aija Beata Rjabovska, and the best sound director Saulius Urbanavicius.

The film “Emilija. The Queen of the Latvian Press” made by the team of directors received the award as the best multi-series film, but the best actress in the lead role is Guna Zariņa for the portrayal of Emilija Benjamiņa.

Director Martina Elīna Martinson’s film “Tizlenes” was recognized as the best debut film, and Julius Volkinstein received the award for the best costume designer for her work in this film.

Ieva Veiverte, the editing director of Pakalniņa “Mirror”, was recognized as the best editing director.

The best short feature film in the category was triumphed by director Jāzeps Podnieks’ film “Storm”, but Paul Ķester’s film “Transfer” was recognized as the best short documentary.

The best animated film in the category was won by the director Māra Liniņa and the artist Ūna Laukmane’s “Čuči, čuči”.

The best feature-length documentary was directed by Andrejs Verhoustinsks’ film “Delle”, the best documentary was directed by Ivars Zviedris with the film “On the Unseen, Brasa!”

The best actress in the background is Agnese Budovska for her work in the film “Wild East. Where will the road lead”, but Santa Ratniece won the Best Composer Award for music for the Hungarian director Deneš Nag’s feature film “In the Natural Light”.

The film “Priekuli Millionaires” by director Līva Polkmane was recognized as the best student film.
