David Moyes believes his experience gives West Ham a great chance to qualify for Europe

David Moyes enjoys returning to compete at the top of the Premier League table and believes that his past experiences will give West Ham a great opportunity to finish in the European places.

Moyes, who guided Everton to the Champions League spots in 2005, is on track to repeat his past successes, with West Ham just three points behind the top four.

It’s a welcome relief for Moyes, who has spent his last three seasons as a coach struggling on the wrong side of the table.

The relegation with Sunderland in 2017 was followed by a rejuvenated first spell at West Ham in which he guided the club to safety, before repeating the trick last season in his second spell in charge.

A remarkable transformation this season has seen the Hammers keep pace in the race for Europe and on a personal level, Moyes is delighted to see his hard work begin to pay off.

“I’m excited because we’ve done better than we hoped we probably would have wanted, but we’ve really started and that’s why it’s great,” he explained.

“I think most of the time that I have managed it has been at the top of the leagues, so I told the players that I have been here before, I have an idea how it looks, I know how the games will go .

“We will need to play well, we will have to be consistent, which I have insisted a lot and, in general, we have been really consistent.”

Moyes welcomes his former Everton captain Mikel Arteta to the London stadium today as West Ham take on Arsenal in search of a fourth consecutive home win.

The Hammers have gained 25 points since the turn of the year, and Moyes says it’s vital that standards don’t slide now heading into the season finale.

‘Since the beginning of 2021 we have had a great total of points. We remained firm until the month of December ”, he added.

“As mentioned, we had a difficult start to the season, but we made our way back.

‘We’ve been building on that and I can’t see why we wouldn’t continue to do so.

“I hope we can do that and try to stay at the top end of the league for as long as possible.”
