Daughter of human rights activist Malcolm X passed away | Abroad

Shabazz was found unconscious by her daughter in her Brooklyn apartment. She died shortly afterwards.

Shabazz was the youngest of six daughters of Malcolm X. She never knew her father, who was shot dead in 1965 while his wife was pregnant with twins. Malcolm X was believed to have been shot dead by members of The Nation of Islam, an activist group he was previously part of, but left after an argument.

Malcolm X was one of the most important and best-known advocates of equal rights for African Americans in the 1960s. Last week, two people convicted of the murder were acquitted, serving a total of 20 years in prison, and were released on parole in the 1980s.

The daughter of another leading human rights activist Martin Luther King reacted with sadness to Shabazz’s death. Bernice King offered his condolences to Shabazz’s family. “Rest in peace Malikah,” King said on Twitter. Martin Luther King was shot dead in 1968.
